Shadow Banning – an ode to Social Media

Just a quick ditty I woke up singing – to the tune of Shadow Dancing – by Barry, Maurice, Robin and Andy Gibb.  I’ll include the karaoke rendition to help you sing along…

Shadow Banning – new words by Irene Starkehaus

You’ve got them watching every tweet or text you send.
They’ve been stalking your location.
They’ve been telling Congress lies,
And they’ve been banning you.
When you write your threads,
Baby, they lose their heads.

And in a world of people,
There’s only one idea.
There ain’t nothing right of center
In the end.

“There’s no opinion if it’s not just like mine.”
Only they can see what’s true.
Lean Left or you are through.

Do not fight.
Algorithms are out of sight.
Shadow banning!
Baby, can’t be no Right.
Uh huh!
Nothing more.
Searches that they adore.
Shadow banning!
Their views and nothing more.

All that they need is just one moment in your cache.
They were chasing your connections.
You were doing them no harm,
But they were banning you.
Made it sound like it’s okay.
Baby, they know your ways.

They need that sweet conviction –
Of thinking they are gods.
They can’t stand when you are right.
It brings them down.

They know the questions and the answers – and yeah,
Only they can know what’s true.
Just them and only Blue.

Do not fight.
Algorithms are out of sight.
Shadow banning!
Baby, can’t be no Right.
Uh huh!
Nothing more.
Searches that they adore.
Shadow banning!
Their views and nothing more.

And in a world of people,
There’s only one idea.
There ain’t nothing right of center –
In the end.

“There’s no opinion if it’s not just like mine.”
Only they can see what’s true.
Lean Left or you are through!

Do not fight.
Algorithms are out of sight.
Shadow banning!
Baby, can’t be no Right.
Uh huh!
Nothing more.
Searches that they adore.
Shadow banning!
Their views and nothing more.
